Is the show suitable for guests who are prone to seizures or motion sickness?

There are no strobe lights used in the production but there are some fast image and light transitions, so we would advise caution for those who suffer from seizures. Equally, while the vast majority of our patrons have an amazing time with no issues, a small minority who are very susceptible to motion sickness find immersive entertainment slightly uncomfortable, so we would advise caution if you fall into this camp.

Is the show suitable for autistic people?

We have found that autistic people LOVE our shows! Please note the venue is dark and there is surround sound. We advise sitting at the end of a row if you think a quick exit might be required. Our on-site staff will assist if you alert them at check-in.

Mayland Earth to Sky Park’s Arthur Planetarium

Nestled in the scenic town of Burnsville, North Carolina, the Mayland Earth to Sky Park’s Glenn and Carol Arthur Planetarium is a remarkable destination for stargazers and curious minds. Officially opened to the public on June 24 and 25, 2021, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, BBQ, and 20-minute preview shows, this planetarium has quickly become a cornerstone for astronomical education and appreciation in the region. It's located within the Earth to Sky Park, an environmental educational park that offers a gateway to explore the natural world from the earth to the sky.

The planetarium, with its 36-foot projection dome housing 60 seats, serves as a multi-purpose venue, hosting traditional astronomy shows, other STEM education shows, and is accessible to school children, Mayland students, and the general public.

A unique feature of the Arthur Planetarium is its array of educational and entertaining shows, offered under a breathtaking dome. From exploring big astronomical concepts, the colors of the cosmos, to the journey of monarch butterflies, and even the unfolding story of the James Webb Space Telescope, the planetarium provides a diverse schedule that caters to a wide array of interests and age groups4. Not only does it offer a glimpse into the cosmic wonders, but it also serves as a platform for environmental education, intertwining the mysteries of the universe with the earthly concerns of climate change and environmental stewardship..
